Makena Stroll, circa 1985

People ask me quite often if I have a favorite painting. If I had to narrow it down to one, Makena Stroll would probably be at the top. The painting flowed through my brush as if something else were painting it. The same thing happened with this pencil sketch. Inspiration did all the work. What is interesting is that these are the same palms in Makena, only from a different perspective. If you were to walk down the road shown in Makena Stroll and look back, this is what you’d see. It was 24 years ago I painted Makena Stroll. Both figuratively and literally, this is the return perspective. The timing couldn't be better, as we celebrate the 26th anniversary of the gallery at the Kula Lodge. -CWC
